Oh, my...
I have let this blog go un-posted for far too long!
So much has happened since my last post. It's crazy, because it has only been about 2 months. In baby world, though, 2 months is practically a year. Josie has grown so much in that time. She laughed for the first time (video to follow!), learned how to grab things, went to her first pumpkin patch, started eating baby food, and had her four-month checkup.
I'm still trying to figure out how to edit the video of her laughing, as it was shot while she was in the bath and I would like preserve at least a slice of her modesty by editing certain parts =)
We heard her laugh twice before we shot the video. Once was in her sleep and only for a very brief moment. The second time I was giving her a bath by myself and when I set her in the water, the cutest giggle emerged from her adorable little big-lipped mouth. Josh was in the other room and didn't get to hear, but the next time Josie got a bath, we were both there in case it happened again. Josh set her in the water, no giggle. He started to wash her, no giggle. Then he poured water from a little cup onto her head to rinse her hair. At first she was shocked and gasped for air, then once she realized everything was ok, she let out the cutest giggle. It happened a few more times when he poured the water over her head, and I am so happy I captured the video of it on my phone. A bath hasn't amused her quite so much since that day, so we are always trying to figure out what else will make her laugh. One day daddy got her laughing really hard when he was playing with her, and every now and then she'll let out a little giggle. Other than that, she's content just showing her happiness with big smiles. We're ok with that, too.
We got a rattle at our baby shower back in May and I decided to bust it out when she was about 3 months old, the suggested age on the packaging. At first she wasn't all that interested in it. She'd look at it and maybe smile, and then turn her attention back to the TV or whatever more interesting event was occurring. Then one day when I was waving it in her face, she reached out her hand and tried to grab it. She couldn't quite get the aiming thing down though, and eventually I just wrapped her little fingers around it myself. She kept hold of it though! After a little while, her aim got better and now she is always reaching out to grab whatever toy we put in front of her.
A couple of weeks before Halloween this year, we took her to the pumpkin patch for the very first time. Grandma Linda wanted a Fall photoshoot, but we were just excited to take her to the place where we have always gone to get our pumpkins for Halloween. Here are some of the pictures! Sadly we didn't get a chance to get a shot of her with the pumpkin we picked out for her, but it's still sitting on our porch so maybe there is still time =)

her eyes in this photo reminded me of those pictures of earth the astronauts take from space... so I made it that way =)
We took her to her four-month checkup on her four month birthday, November 9th. She's very healthy and did a great job with her shots! Only cried for a few seconds. Hugs from mommy and daddy made it all better, and a little Tylenol got her through the next couple of days fever-free. She's in about the 20th percentile with her weight and length, and in the 90th percentile for her head circumference. So yes, we have a bit of a bobblehead on our hands =) I'm sure she'll grow into her big noggin very soon!
A few weeks ago, my friend Kate and I took Josie on her first park adventure to Tenney Park in Madison. She put her feet in some sand on the beach and even went down her first slide! She was very fascinated by all the pretty fall-colored leaves on the trees and all the other sights and sounds of the pretty Fall outdoors. Here are some photos:
After her checkup, we got the go-ahead to let her try some baby food. They told us to start with rice cereal, so a couple of days later we gave it a try. She didn't really know what to think at first, and just kind of got a confused look on her face and spit it out. We tried a couple more times though, and eventually she started eating more than she spit out. Today she even tried some organic apple baby food and I think she liked it! Here are some pictures from the first attempt at cereal:
Not the most flattering photos, but they certainly capture the "what just happened?" looks on her face =)
We received a bunch of hats from Josie's Grandma's cousin a couple of weeks ago, in exchange for photos for her to use on her Etsy site. They are ridiculously cute, and between Josie's grandma Linda and I, we got plenty of photos =)
By the way, please check out her Etsy shop, she has a ton of adorable hats for kids of all ages!
I still have tons of photos to post from October and this month, so please stay tuned for more Josie eye candy!

Married!
Yep, finally, the wedding madness is over. It was a wonderful day but I hope I never have to plan a wedding again!
Josie looked so amazingly cute in her little red dress that I custom-ordered from a seller on Etsy. I will have to post pictures of it later, but here is one that we got as part of a sneak-preview from our awesome photographer, Audre (http://audreraephotography.blogspot.com).
Josh and I spent a whole four nights without Josie this weekend while we were taking care of "business," which was pretty hard, especially the first night. We stayed at Great Wolf Lodge Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, so we stopped in at the gift shop and got her something to remember the weekend by.
We've named her "Wolfie," and Josie loves it. She will sit and stare at it forever, and smiles when we put it in front of her.
I can tell they're going to be BFF's, even though Wolfie can't give kisses like Gambit can.
Here's a few more I took yesterday.

AND today while my new mother-in-law and I were at Walgreens, we made the most awesome discovery.
"Just Josie" books! Sure, the Josie in the book is a redhead, and has a cat instead of a dog, but what little kid doesn't love reading about someone with the same name as them? I never thought there'd be Josie books. So awesome!
One last thing:
This is how we discovered her napping in her swing today. So proper =)

Two month checkup, a couple weeks late.
Josie had her two month checkup yesterday. We've been waiting for this one, A) because it's a milestone and B) because Josie is actually almost 3 months old and still in newborn clothing. Too small for some of it, actually. I am kind of surprised at how a lot of baby clothing makers think babies are shaped sometimes. I know she's small for her age but still, it's like they think all babies are shaped like basketballs. Short and fat. Anyways.. her checkup. Turns out she is in the 20th percentile for weight and length, and 75th for head circumference! We have a bit of a bobble-head on our hands! It's ok, though, because she fits into a lot of the warm hats we bought before she was born. She has also outgrown a few of the cute ones, though, but it just gives me a reason to find some more =)
We also have been waiting for this appointment because we found out a few weeks ago that she has thrush. I took her in and got a prescription for it when I was in Sauk with my mom over Labor Day weekend, but it turns out she is allergic to the normal medicine they give for it. When we went in for her checkup we told the doctor about it, and she told us there's a treatment they can do in the office for it. The side effect? It turns her mouth purple for about a day. We were all for it.
Here's what she looked like when we brought her home:
It was pretty interesting having a purple-mouthed daughter for a day. She also drooled purple, so we had her in plain white onesies and had to lay old blankets down in her crib. It had faded away by the time she woke up this morning. She also had her shots at her checkup, and was a total rockstar about it. She cried initially, but a few minutes later it was no big deal. She sprung a fever that night but after a run to Walgreens and a dose of baby Tylenol it was gone within a couple hours. She's been a little fussy and sleepy but overall she's all good today. We're more than ready to get back into the routine of being home with her.

Two months old!
It's been awhile. Planning a wedding is kind of stressful. But I'm still here! Also, Josie is 2 whole months old today =) To celebrate, she tried on one of the mustaches that Josh's friend Luke sent us. Check her out!
She's so lovely with pink facial hair, wouldn't you say? |
